Our Review
Lowrance new High Definition System (HDS) series of chartplotters, fishfinder, sonars, i.e. multi function displays are compatible with Navionics full line of award-winning charts. This is only one of the several new features Lowrance has added to the HDS range available in 10", 8", 7" and 5" sizes.

Lowrance is very popular with boaters on inland waters, due to the sonar fishfinding technology. The Navionics HotMaps offer Lowrance users over 14,000 detailed charts and 3d resolution of 470 tournament lakes.

Other new features are the ease of navigation using the flywheel scroll dial, on the 8 and 10” models, SolarMAX PLUS display enhancement, High Definition weather from Sirius, High Definition sonar using ” Lowrance award winning Broadband Sounder-1 ” , as well as TurboView mapping software which allows seamless zooming of Navionics charts including Platinum +.

With the Flywheel scroll dial you can easily choose screens of sonar or sonar and chart or sonar and radar, or sonar and info, like engine data. The menu selection with the flywheel plus the intuitive screen showing the available options makes moving around a synch.

The ” HDSrevolution web site has a neat demo” of the system. This is an interactive demo and you can use the flywheel and some of the soft keys to see the technology at work. You can choose the sonar and see how the soft keys change sensitivity and color. With the mapping you can zoom in and out to reveal the detail.

Launched in late 2008 the system was show at the London Boat Show this week.
