Fixing Positions Trailer Sailing the WestOur Review
One of the beauties of the trailer sailor is to explore. This books looks at Trailering in the West, by a writer and avid boater who has travelled the West Coast. 224 pages and $24.

Sheridan House's Description
This book will appeal to sailors who are interested in learning about some of the most attractive and challenging sailing venues in the American West. It notes how to reach such venues while providing historical, geological, cultural, and meteorological information as well as maps and photographs on each of these destinations.

The first part describes the early years of the Djos as a trailer sailing family and the wonders and hard experience they gained on the water some 20 years ago.

Four areas are covered: Lake Powell, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, southern California, and Mexico. Each includes narratives on the author’s cruising experience along with information that might be of interest and practical advice on visiting and sailing the area. The middle chapter of each section describes how a storm or challenging event was managed and the tactics employed.

Each area also contains an abbreviated cruising guide or sidebar on matters of special interest to trailer sailors.

The Appendix is comprised of four sections on trailer maintenance, driving techniques, small boat provisioning, and small boat safety.

About the Author:

Matts G. Djos has a PhD in English literature and is Professor Emeritus at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. A lifelong sailor and regular contributor to sailing magazines, this is his first nautical book. When not sailing, he lives with his wife in the Colorado high country.
