Interphase is one of the leaders in forward looking sonars. The latest product from Interphase is the Ultrascan PC90. From the claims, and you can watch the video below, you will be able to detect underwater objects well before you get there.

Ultrascan PC90 produces a 90 degree forward scan 24 times every second at 100 ft range Ultrascan is up to 200 times faster than previous Interphase forward-looking sonar.

Ultrascan PC90 connects to your PC or monitor with video capability, via Ethernet. Many of the latest displays like Raymarines C Wide, Simrad NSE, and others are good at displaying video. Ultrascan PC90 will cost under $5,000.

This technology provides some great benefits but it is still early days. I think interpreting the results will take some time to learn.

Mechanical scanning sonars typically take several seconds to scan a 90-degree segment, and recent “real time” sonars take between one and two seconds to scan over 90-degrees. Interphase’s new Ultrascan PC90TM , uses a unique phased array transducer, with no moving parts, to simultaneously form multiple beams across a 90-degree segment. On the 100ft range, Ultrascan displays a complete 90-degree forward scan 24 times every second. Easy to install, Ultrascan’s fixed transducer requires no hoist or expensive sea chest.
