It would be great to some more specific shows like this. For example a cruisers show or a racers show. The other thing I noticed was the displays for gear are static and I think exhibitors should be using more video. I see a product but cannot vision its full use unless I get a demonstration. Some like the Quickline anchor guy get this and start demonstration on regular basis to demonstrate the anchor full benefits. It helps people understand the product and helps the vendor sell it also. T2P TV was at Trawler-Fest and taking video.
Here are a few of the interesting things we saw on show at Trawler-Fest
This reminds me of Monty Python's skit "The Spanish inquisition". When the Inquisition took their prisoners they subjected them to the COMFY CHAIR. These Navigator seats are very comfy.
The seats feature adjustable height adjustable angled backs for and aft slide and footrests. These seats are very comfortable and many of those who sat in them found out. They are popular retrofits for existing boats. For the sportfisherman that goes slamming into waves a solid lock is available as the standard fore and aft brake may not hold.
A very neat feature of the navigator seat is this Flip-up’ mechanism which allows you to utilize the seat as a leaning post for those who prefer to be able to stand or still as a traditional seat. Above left you can see the flip up position. The US importer is Marine Weaver
The seats range in price from $1,700 to almost $10K which has all the bells and whistles and has electric controls.
Elwood Controls had two interesting products at the show. The monitoring control and the fuel vacuum guage.
You can get the high end displays like Simrad, Raymarine and others to display tanks levels and systems, but this takes away valuable screen real estate which could be used for navigation or something else. This one screen is dedicated to the systems and its touch screen makes it very user friendly of the many you use now. This screen is a little over 8" * 6", wood rim is available. A new addition is a phone transmitter which can send the monitors alarms
to your cell phone. Elwood DFM-50 electric diesel fuel filter monitor We had looked at the filter monitor before as Catherine Wheeler has told us about Elwood's Diesel Fuel Filter that she uses on her Nordhavn 50. The DFM-50 uses solid state differential vacuum pressure sensing, that dramatically increases sensitivity over mechanical fuel vacuum gauges. The vacuum is measured by straddling the filters and reading the pressure difference. Clogged filters mean a large pressure difference, $295
The boat Owner can dial the unit he purchased and it notes the telephone number and sends an acknowledgement message. The sim card from the phone they use is in the housing so should you loose your phone you can get the number by opening up the housing. The unit can be bought from Hamilton Marine BoatUS has an article on how boats sink at the dock a good reason to get this product.
Ultra Anchor The Ultra anchor has a hollow shank and the bottom of the anchor is filled with lead. This makes for an very low center of gravity. The anchors design features a sort of wing which is angled down. When the anchor is pulled by the chain the wing starts lifting the anchor upright while at the same time the low C of G pushes the pointed tip into the bottom. This combination allows the anchor to set quickly which the demonstration ably showed.
The
Ultra swivel is a beautifully crafted 316L stainless steel swivel that is
strong, safe and a super efficient way to connect your anchor chain to the
anchor.
The Island Pilot takes the Ossa Powerlite propulsion system a step further with the addition of a Solar Array is up off the deck - power increased to 6.6kW. This link goes takes you to the operation of the DSe Hybrid.
The Island Pilot Hybrid features:
In the bow
of each hull is an
Ossa Powerlite generator
Underneath the settee in the guest stateroom in the port hull
and in the machinery room in the starboard hull are the
Ossa Powerlite hi-voltage 35
