The are many system monitoring devices and software programs on the market. There are
simple ones like
Boat sense
solutions and at the top end custom setups that cost up to $100,000 for mega
yachts. Krill brings some of the mega Yacht system to the 40-100 foot
market.
What it does

Yachts, and boats are getting ever more complicated, which means more and more
instruments and readouts. Krill have designed a system that uses the PC
to manage these displays so you can one convenient monitor to cover all
onboard systems.
You can have a dedicated display or the soft display on your PC. The
software shows 4 systems at once on the PC. This enables you to monitor,
engine, tank levels, electrical and switches all at the same time. This
replaces all the analogue displays you would need to cover all these
systems saving a lot of space.
The latest version of the Krill Systems Soft Display
vessel monitoring software is capable of importing and displaying
information from NMEA 2000 devices including engines, J1939 Engine
Gateways, wind/weather, compass heading, FloScan fuel flow, GPS, and
water depth, speed and temperature sensors throughout a boat.
How it works
Check out the system by downloading
Krills demo software.
You will find well thought out software for monitoring important stuff
on a medium sized boat. Krill has a starter kit at
$6,900. That gets you an Electrical System Sensor
Pod, a Tank & Switch Sensor Pod, all cables and sensors, an Ethernet
Switch, and the Soft Display to run on your yachts computer. Krill also
makes a waterproof 8.4 inch display with built-in Wifi in lieu of
Ethernet.

The dedicated display can be mounted in the
pilothouse or engine room depending on your need

The DU840 is designed to be always "on" in
order to always protect all of your systems 24/7. In contrast to PC
based software, all necessary software is pre-installed and runs
immediately upon power up. There is never any potential conflicts with
other software that may impair the operation of the display.
Ideal for applications where keeping a power
hungry PC running continuously is undesired or impractical, the low
power consumption of 3 watts with the screen turned off allows
continuous
monitoring for extended periods of time even while on battery power.
The rugged enclosure of the DU840 is fully
water proofed and designed to display your critical data even in the
harshest of conditions such as fly bridges and exposed pilot houses.
A bulletproof platform designed specifically
to run Krills Soft Display software, the Black Box Display Processor
provides protection against the security and reliability issues of
off-the-shelf computer systems.
Designed without fans, hard disks or any other
moving parts, Krills Black Box is ideally suited to withstand the harsh
pounding and extreme conditions associated with the marine environment.
Running the latest Krill vessel monitoring
software on an embedded version of Windows XP, the Krill Black Box
maintains the integrity of the monitoring solution and protect against
software crashes. The Black Box runs only the Krill Soft Display
software, restricting the loading of other applications such as games
that can alter system parameters and compromise the device’s
functionality and reliability. This feature also makes the system
impervious to viruses and other malicious software that can result from
downloading files off the web.
The image shows the data divided into 4 groups, so many systems can be
conveniently monitored at one time. Shown are engine tanks switches and navigation.
The navigation display is like that of a modern aircraft.

Soft display
The same Krill sensor data that is shown on the DU840
dedicated display is available on any PC running SoftDisplay software.
SoftDisplay is ideal for vessels with crowded helm stations that already
have large PC display monitors installed. All of the setup menus and the
user interface remain the same as the DU840 display.
In addition to all of the DU840 features, SoftDisplay
also offers the following additional features:
- Remote Internet Access
- Alarm Email
- Navigation System Page
- Display multiple system pages simultaneously,
depending on screen resolution
SoftDisplay comes with a boat-wide license, which
means you may run SoftDisplay on as many PC's as you wish; both onboard
as well as remotely at your home or office.
Sensors and sensor pods
Sensors are attached to the item being monitored. The
sensors are then attached to these sensor pods. The data is collected from the systems by the sensor then its
sent to the
PC via Ethernet and wifi if a wireless router is available. There are
sensor pods for electrical, tanks and switches.

SoftDisplay Remote Internet Access
It would be nice to have all your boats data available to you anywhere
you are, with internet access. You can get e mail alerts for any
malfunction onboard. Better yet you can get all you ships systems in
front of you on the same screen you have onboard.

Remote Internet Access works by connecting Krill
Sensor Pods and DU840 Displays to the Wireless Router and running
SoftDisplay on an onboard PC. Two sets of User ID and passwords are
provided by Krill to enable the Onboard and Remote PCs transmit and
receive sensor data over the Internet. The unique User IDs insures that
only authorized PC's are allowed to access the sensor information on
your vessel.
