Xantrex Freedom HF Inverter/Charger
The new Freedom HF Inverter / charger from Xantrex is designed for small boats and will handle all charging of the boats battery banks and convert 12volt DC power to AC power for electrical loads like TVs, DVDs, electronics and computers.
Inverters and inverter/chargers are the instruments that handle your AC power requirements, see Wiki definition. The inverter is added to your electrical system directly to the battery bank. The inverter/charger draws power from the battery bank when asked and recharges the batteries as required. The length of time required to charge the batteries is dependant on battery size and electrical loads drawing power.
If you are using the boats power supply the inverter draws 12 volt DC power from the battery bank and converts it to 120 volt AC power. If you are using shore power the inverter/charger recharges the battery bank by using portions of the incoming AC shore power and converting to DC power. The remainder of the incoming shore AC power is used to power AC loads. Hence the inverter charger handles all loads and charging either using the boats own power supply or shore power.
Xantrex make charging and power systems for recreational boats and vehicles. They are the manufacturer of the well known Freedom charger inverter. Xantrex also make alternative energy solutions for solar and wind power.
$430-499 for the HF 1800 and $320-360 for the HF 1000
“The Freedom HF sets new standards for size, weight and cost in its category. This compact line of inverter/chargers weighs less than 13 pounds (6 kilograms) and is available in 1000 watt and 1800 watt models. The Freedom HF includes a microprocessor controlled charger, and a detachable remote that can be mounted anywhere on the boat or vehicle for easy operation.
“These inverter/chargers offer significant benefits to boaters and RV owners,” said Lawrence Neill, Xantrex Director, Product Management. “The three-stage charger provides a fast, complete charge to an AGM, gel, or flooded battery, and the 30-amp AC transfer relay allows for easy switching between inverter power and shore power. It also meets UL458 standards.”
The Xantrex Freedom HF Inverter/Charger line is available at West Marine, Camping World and other marine and RV retailers. Suggested retail prices are US$449.99 and US$599.99 respectively for the Freedom HF 1000 and Freedom HF 1800 models.
With modified sine wave output, Freedom HF 1000 and 1800 Inverter/Chargers are designed to run entertainment systems and small appliances in smaller boats, RV’s, and trucks. The Freedom HF Inverter/Chargers are the smallest, lightest, and least expensive models in the Xantrex lineup.
